(ARCADIA, Calif.) – Christmas comes early for the nation's collegiate track and field and cross country coaches as National Letter of Intent signing day arrives on Wednesday, Feb. 6th, meaning that America's top student-athletes will be making their official decisions on where they'll be attending college.
Among the "blue chip" boys talents looking to sign from the Class of 2013 include short sprinters Khalfani Muhammad (pictured above) and Morgan Simon from Notre Dame High School and Loyola High School, respectively, long sprinters Alex Rohani (Beverly Hills) and Brett Moulton (Santiago), and distance runners Cody Brazeal (Buchanan), Bryan Fernandez (Dos Pueblos) and Juan Gonzalez (El Toro). Top field eventers on the block include horizontal jumpers Jaelen Spencer (Sultana) and Walter Jones (Redlands) and pole vaulter Kyle Pater (Mt. Carmel).
Among the hot recruits from the girls' end of things are super hurdlers Sasha Wallace of Castro Valley, Jordie Munford of Rancho Cucamonga and Jade Miller of Great Oak, sprinters LaTroya Franklin (Long Beach Wilson) and Nia Dorner (Rosemont) and distance runners Hagen Reedy (Buchanan) and Nikki Hiltz (Aptos). Among the field eventers weighing their final options include pole vaulter Mimi Lian (Rancho Bernardo), the aforementioned Sasha Wallace, Kiare Tanner (Stockdale) and Rachel Tolliver (St. Mary's Academy) in the triple jump, and Tanya Sapa (La Sierra) in the throws.
With California annually being the leading state in the nation in terms of depth of recruiting talent, scores upon scores of leading Golden Staters will make a definite and, in some cases, immediate impact at the next level. The big question is: Where will they be doing it?
PrepCalTrack will be reporting on the signees as high school seniors reveal their decisions by submitting their signed documents to the school of their choice. If you're making your decision this week, we'd like to hear about it and post it on our list for 2013. Just send an email to RichGonzalezTrack@gmail.com telling us where you'll be attending. Coaches and parents are asked to email us the exciting news as well.
We'll also be posting signing photos for those student-athletes who'll be having either a signing "ceremony" at school, or even photos from their home setting as students sign in front of family and/or friends. If sending us a digital photo, we ask that the photo be of landscape (horizontal) orientation rather than portrait (vertical) orientation. Send the photo at full size and we'll edit it to fit just right. When sending your decision info, please use the following format:
Name (high school) sport or event – college choice
Darren Jackson (St. Pius VII HS) cross country – Binghampton College
Felicia Foster (Woodrow Thompson HS) sprints – University of Henderson
As soon as you've made your decision, send us the news, even if you plan to submit a photo and it isn't ready yet. You can always send in your signing photo later! :)
Thanks …. and congratulations to the student/athletes, families, and coaches on this special decision day!
